Add your tax deadlines to Google Calendar or Outlook: import vs subscription

Use an .ics download for a snapshot or a calendar URL for a subscription. Understand updates, duplicate imports and the privacy of a subscription link.

Choose a snapshot or an ongoing subscription

The free Compliance Calendar builder offers an .ics download. Importing that file into another calendar copies the events available at that time. Google and Microsoft distinguish imported events from a subscription that can receive updates. A fresh business profile does not automatically rewrite a previously imported file.

The account's subscription feature provides a calendar feed URL when the entitlement is active. A calendar application can subscribe to that address and refresh it on its own schedule. This is different from repeatedly importing downloaded copies.

Use a separate calendar for deadline events

  1. Build the business profile and verify the dates against the official account notices.
  2. Download the .ics file if a snapshot is sufficient.
  3. Use the calendar application's import workflow and choose the destination calendar deliberately.
  4. Open a few events to check the dates, descriptions and notification settings.

A separate destination makes review easier and can help you recognize old imports. Re-importing a file may create duplicates, depending on the application. Review what is already there before importing another copy.

Understand feed updates and access

In Outlook on the web, the subscription workflow is Add calendar, then Subscribe from web. Microsoft notes that refreshing a subscribed calendar can sometimes take more than 24 hours. Do not assume a profile change or revoked link is reflected immediately in an external calendar's cached events.

Treat a private feed URL as access to its calendar data. Share it only with intended recipients. Resetting the feed link prevents future access through the old address; it does not erase copies or events another application already cached.

Check reminders in the place you will use them

Review the destination application's time zone and notification settings. A calendar notification is separate from Compliance Calendar's email-reminder service. Neither an imported event nor a queued email proves that a filing or tax payment has been completed. Use the filing and payment records for those actions.

Common questions

Will an imported .ics file update when I change my profile?

No. Treat an import as a snapshot. Use a supported subscription workflow when ongoing updates are needed.

Does resetting a feed remove events already copied elsewhere?

No. It prevents future access using the old link. Copies or cached events in another application may remain.
